The SLC OET Medicine and Nursing practice tests were written by experienced OET test writers. They are very similar to an official OET test and accurately assess your score as if you were to sit an actual test.
You take the online tests under timed conditions so you can see how well you can manage your time in the actual test.
The Reading and Listening tests are scored automatically. The Writing test is submitted for marking by the SLC Academic team. The Speaking is live with an experienced OET expert who also marks you according to the OET criteria.

When you open the test, the timer starts. You have 40 minutes for the Listening and 60 minutes for the Reading. The format and question types in the Listening and Reading papers are the same as in an official OET test.
When you have finished, you have some time to check your answers. When you are happy or when the timer is up, you submit your answers.
You then see your scores on the Results pages, along with grade we predict you would score.
When you log in to the OET Writing paper, the timer starts. You read a set of case notes and write a letter based on them, just as in the official test. You have 45 minutes to write your answer. You cannot stop the timer. At the end you submit your answers.
An examiner then marks your letter using the official OET writing criteria: (1) purpose (2) content (3) conciseness and clarity (4) genre and style (5) organisation and layout (6) language.
OET Medicine and OET Nursing Speaking sub-tests take place on Zoom. SLC schedules the OET Speaking test with you and an examiner at a convenient time.
At the agreed time, you log in and you take part in two role plays following the same format as the official test. The test takes between around 20 minutes.
At the end, the examiner marks you using the official OET Speaking criteria, both linguistic – (1) intelligibility (2) fluency (3) appropriateness (4) grammar and expression – and clinical communication (1) relationship-building (2) understanding and incorporating the patient’s perspective (3) providing structure (4) information-gathering (5) information-giving.
You receive a test report which shows your scores in the 4 sub-tests, including the criteria scores in the Writing and Speaking papers. You also see a predicted grade in each of the sub-tests, so you can see how close you are to the grades you need.
If you take the test in a quiet space where you are not disturbed, then your scores will reflect your level.
