Overseas healthcare support workers and carers do an amazing job but face many language and communication challenges when working with patients, service users, their families, and colleagues.
This is particularly the case when managing those with complex care needs or where their ability to communicate clearly is affected, for example by dementia or a hearing impairment. They may also be upset or confused, and use unfamiliar idiomatic language.Â
English for Care addresses this problem. It teaches the language needed to effectively manage a wide range of common healthcare scenarios, from welcoming patients, to managing food and drink, personal care and mobility, to handling pressure area care, falls and injuries, infection control, and pain, to working with elderly patients and mental health.
Throughout the course, learners develop their work-focused communication skills, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and develop the confidence to apply the learning when at work.
English for Care is CPD-accredited and can be studied on PC, tablet and phone. It can be downloaded to work offline.

Lessons are designed for small groups from the same organisation. Classes are led by an expert communication skills tutor. Lessons target what learners need to work on and what they most need to improve their performance at work.
Before the course starts, we ask learners to complete a detailed needs analysis form, including an English level assessment. This means lessons will be targeted from the very start.
Lessons take place when learners are available. We offer maximum flexibility to carers and their employers.
