This short CPD-accredited course is for overseas carers working in residential care homes, nursing homes, supported living and domiciliary care. It provides them with the English language skills that will enable them to communicate confidently, safely and effectively at work.
Mastering Communication in Social Care was developed in partnership with the South East Social Care Alliance and covers a wider range of common scenarios, from introductions to talking about food and drink, personal care, mobility, pain, pressure area care, falls and mental health.
The course is online and optimised for mobile devices. It is media-rich with video, audio, voice-recording and interactive tasks throughout. At the end of the course, learners receive a CPD certificate for 8 hours.
Mastering Communication in Social Care can be taken as a self-paced online course or combined with four online coaching sessions with an expert communication skills teacher. In these sessions, learners practice the language through role play, problem solving and discussion. They receive input and feedback designed so they can use their learning with service users at work to provide care safely and confidently.
Each unit has a clear communicative focus, highlighting the language needed in a range of common workplace scenarios.
Coaching is available for groups of up to 12 carers. Each session covers two scenarios from the course and explores how to communicate most effectively with service users or colleagues. Key language is introduced, explained and practised throughout. Communication skills covered include:
