We’re delighted to offer a range of free online English language and communication courses for Hong Kong BN(O), Ukrainians under the Home for Ukraine (HfU) scheme or Ukraine Permissions Extension (UPE) and Communities for Afghanistan residents across the South East of England.

The courses are free with funding provided by South East Strategic Partnership for Migration and the UK Government.

Eligibility

To join the courses:

1. You must live in Kent & Medway, Hampshire, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Oxfordshire, Southampton, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Brighton & Hove, Buckinghamshire, Reading, Wokingham, West Berkshire, Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, Bracknell Forest, Slough or Milton Keynes.

2. You must be on one of the following visa routes:

Hong Kong BN(O)
Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme (Homes for Ukraine)
Ukraine Permission Extension Scheme
Communities for Afghans Scheme

3. You must be 18 or over

The Courses

Language and Communication Skills for Integration

These courses teach the English language you need to integrate successfully into life in the UK. You cover a wide range of essential topics and skills, including:

making conversations with neighbours
healthcare
schools
dealing with local services
taking phone calls
using local transport
festivals and culture
shopping and food
dealing with idioms and slang

There are 3 courses:

ESOL Entry Level 1 / CEFR A1
ESOL Entry Level 2 / CEFR A2
ESOL Entry Level 3 / CEFR B1

Language and Communication Skills for the Workplace

This course builds your language and confidence when you communicate at work. Lesson topics include:

participating in meetings
asking questions
understanding and giving instructions
applying for jobs
interviewing for jobs
understanding different levels of formality
writing workplace emails and notes
UK workplace culture
networking and making friends at work

This course is for ESOL Entry Level 3 / CEFR B1 level learners

Trinity B1 English Test courses

The Trinity B1 English Test (Trinity GESE Grade 5) is a test commonly taken by Hong Kong BN(O) visa holders when they apply for their Indefinite Leave to Remain visa. These courses prepare you to pass the test. Courses include:

Exam format and goal-setting
Building and structuring your personal Topic
Key grammar: present, past, future forms
Vocabulary: festivals, travel, music, personal experience and more
Handling examiner questions with confidence
Fluency and pronunciation practice
Preparation course – full mock exams with detailed feedback
Preparation course – exam-day briefing and booking support

There are 2 courses

The Foundation course is for ESOL Entry Level 2 / CEFR A2 level learners. It develops the test-focused language and skills necessary to take the Preparation course.

The Preparation course is for ESOL Entry Level 3 / CEFR B1 level learners. It develops your test language and skills and includes extensive exam questions, tasks and practice tests.
