Specialist Language Courses

What happened in July?

This month SLC Director Peter Rodway worked to support clients and partners in the UK in their efforts to increase knowledge and take-up of OET training as part of international recruitment pathways.

Working with Dedicare (formerly Templars) Peter spent weekends supporting IGPs from Spain looking to register with the GMC and work as family doctors in Hull area.

Peter worked alongside colleagues from NHS Humber and North Yorkshire ICB to lead information sessions on how English language proficiency plays an important part in their process. Also in the Northern Licolnshire and Goole region, Peter provided webinars to IENs currently in the Trust’s recrutiment process.

Seonaid Doughy, Recruitment Specialist for Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS said, “The session was really well received in terms of raising awareness of the difference between the IELTS and OET, and we received thanks and appreciation from those who attended.  I personally loved the positivity around reframing the pass/fail concept and that in actual fact, those with scores equivalent to IELTS 6 /6.5 are operating at a very high academic level and should be proud of that.

I’m hoping it gave reassurance and encouragement to those already going through the process and inspiration to those just starting out”

We were delighted to achieve CPD accreditation for our two new courses focusing on the needs of nurses relocating to the UK to work in the NHS.

The first course, Preparation for the Nursing OSCE, provides international nurses with the knowledge, language and communication skills they need to successfully pass their OSCE so they can register with the NMC.

The second, Living and Working in the UK, provides the essential knowledge that nurses need to successfully settle into the UK as a nurse – professionally, socially, culturally and linguistically.

Both courses have now been successfully trialled in NHS Trusts, and were accredited by the CPD Standards Office.
